SOYA launches for 2010! 21/06/2010

The Qantas Spirit of Youth Awards (SOYA), the leading award for Australia’s best emerging artists, designers, and creatives, has officially opened registrations to young achievers wanting to boost their careers with a once-in-a-lifetime mentorship and grants program.

Talented Australians aged 30 and under across seven creative fields - fashion, film, visual arts, visual communications, music, industrial and object design and photography - are invited to submit their work for a chance to financial support in the form of $5000 in cash and $5000 in Qantas flights, as well as a rare 12-month mentorship opportunity with leading lights of the international creative community.

In 2010, SOYA boasts a stellar line-up of inspirational mentors; MARC NEWSON (Design), NICKY and SIMONE ZIMMERMANN (Fashion), JAN CHAPMAN (Film), TONY MOTT (Photography), LEE GROVES (Music), ELIZABETH ANN MACGREGOR (Visual Arts) and DEANNE CHEUK (Visual Communication). As success stories in their respective fields, these industry leaders know that getting a break and having the right doors opened can launch a creative career.

Remarkable SOYA winners to date have included fashion labels ANTiPOD!UM, Friedrich Gray, Romance Was Born, musicians WOLF & CUB, MY DISCO, OH MERCY and FERGUS BROWN, artists REBECCA BAUMANN, DANIELLE FREAKLEY and GRANT STEVENS, photographers JAMES BRICKWOOD and NIRRIMI HAKANSON, among many others.

SOYA is open for submissions from June 22 until the closing date of August 9 with all submissions to be made through the website www.soya.com.au.

The winners will be announced at a spectacular awards night held on November 11 at the Foundation Hall of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney.
