A double dose of Dupont

Thursday, October 09, 2008

Stephen Dupont-Photography-hi_resIf SOYA 2008 Photography Mentor wasn't already enough on his plate, Stephen Dupont has recently added a couple more notches to his camera strap.

The first of which is this years Guest Curator of Reportage: a celebration of photojournalism, Australia's first festival dedicated to photojournalism and documentary photography, of which he is also a founding member. Aiming to demonstrate the power of images to shape our lives and celebrate the spirit of independent photography, the festival encompasses exhibitions, seminars, guest talks, screenings and more. It opened yesterday and continues till October 26 at various venues around Paddington, Sydney.

And rounding it out, you can get up close and personal with some of Stephen's impressive portraits from his time working in Afghanistan. They are on display alongside work from fellow Head On winner, Greg Weight, at Giclee Australia Gallery in Mascot, Sydney from October 16 to November 15. For more info point that clicker here.

slowdancing

Wow! With the amount of submissions for SOYA this year, we've had to lock ourselves away with an avalanche of top notch works! We're thinking that we need to get out a little bit though and check out the new solo exhibition from SOYA 2007 highly commended Visual Arts entrant Mitch Cairns.

He is presenting a new body of work, Slow Dancing, opening this Thursday September 4 at 6pm at Locksmith Project Space (6 Botany Rd, Alexandria, Sydney).

The exhibition continues Thursday though Saturday, 1pm - 6pm till September 20.
